The Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad claimed 241 lives, including Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, who recently vowed to quit flying to care for his elderly father, and First Officer Clive Kunder, whose family had strong ties to actor Vikrant Massey. Captain Sabharwal, 55, with over 8,300 hours of experience, had promised his father he would quit his job to care for him full-time. Captain Sabharwal issued a "Mayday" call moments before contact was lost. The sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, is recovering in the hospital. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson turned back his flight to Paris and flew to Ahmedabad to manage the response.
